Culture is Behavior: Positively Impacting Student and Staff Behavior in a Way That Sticks
Character development and social-emotional competencies are critical to preparing students for their civic, working, and private lives. The culture of your school isn’t the sole responsibility of the school administration. What does it take to create an intentional school culture and climate where people want to show up every day vs feel like they have to show up? How do we get staff to buy in?

How do we encourage every student to be a leader? We must provide staff with low-burden, high-impact strategies that begin with adult behavior change and end with a positive impact on the academic, social-emotional, and career development of our students. Come to this resource-packed session to learn how to shift the culture of your school towards inclusion and compassion.

Champions of Hope
With the impacts of COVID-19, the shift to virtual and blended learning, unprecedented trauma, social unrest, and a multitude of other challenges facing our school communities, there has never been a more critical time to have intentional processes to draw out the greatness in our students and for leaders to be Champions of
Hope. We believe, “if you have a child’s heart, you have a child’s mind.” It is imperative to create environments of safety and trust whereby every student, no matter their situation or story, is connected and engaged in a process that will help them succeed. Capturing the hearts of your staff and students is the foundation to achieve, social, emotional and academic safety, making this possible.

Increasing Retention with your Staff
Over the next 30 days some of your staff will decide if they want to return to your campus. Simon Sinek opened the conversation about “knowing your why." The challenge for some of your staff may not be the “WHY,” but the “WANT TO.” Phil will lead a conversation to discuss how to improve the “want to“ within your staff and encourage them to pursue their full potential.

Sifting Through the Sand: How District-Wide Non-Negotiables Became Our Compass
WPUSD has increased student achievement for the last four years. This is due, in part, to the collective
development of district-wide non-negotiables. The administrative team’s accountability to these non-negotiables has become a four-year journey of continual improvement. This journey has included
trainings in group development, data-driven decision-making, identifying “best instruction,” and understanding quality instructional programs. Site administrators are the engines that drive school improvement. Put your energy into their development, and the rest will follow.

Student Empathy Interviews: What Are They and How Do They Impact My Practice?
Have you ever wondered why a student’s behavior suddenly changed? Perhaps there’s been constant repetition of challenging/disruptive behavior in the classroom that has been impeding the learning of the entire class? As educators, we can sometimes forget the key of behavior is communication. In the Old Adobe Union School District, we have learned a lot about our students using improvement science, student empathy interviews, and a new data tool. Join our session to learn the what, why and how to replicate this in your district.
